How are bus stops and routes determined?

Every North Putnam Student is eligible for transportation and is assigned a specific bus stop and route number when they request transportation during registration. The routing staff at NPCSC Transportation uses a routing software package to determine and route students. Bus stops are typically designed to be door to door, but in some areas (such as in towns, subdivisions, etc.), bus stops could be assigned at the end of a street or at a center meeting point.

Why does our bus stop change from year to year, or even during the school year?

Each year, students move in and out of neighborhoods and homes, as well as advance grade levels. Stops can change to accommodate the needs of the students in the area. A mid-year bus stop change does not occur often but could be necessary because of construction in an area, road closures, or driver changes.

How do I contact my student’s bus driver?

Please contact the North Putnam Transportation Department if you need to contact your student's driver.

I need to have different daily bus stops for my student. How do I set this up?

All students will only be allowed two different pick-up and drop-off locations. Any other requests outside of the primary and secondary addresses will be denied. We understand the challenges that parents can face, and we do everything we can to get your student where they need to go.

Why does my student have to sit in an assigned seat?

We allow drivers to determine student seat assignments. If students disrupt the bus environment, they may be moved to another seat location.

Are NPCSC buses equipped with cameras and GPS?

For NPCSC staff use, all buses have active cameras. All buses are equipped with GPS units, allowing families to see where the bus is at. NPCSC uses the MyRide K-12 app to provide live updates of bus locations.

What if I have a transportation concern?

If you have a concern about the bus driver or route, please contact the NPCSC Transportation Office at 765-522-6220. We will gladly look into your concern.

What qualifications must bus drivers have to drive a school bus for North Putnam Community School Corporation?

In order to drive a school bus for NPCSC, you must be 21 years of age or older, hold a valid Indiana Class B CDL license with Air Brakes, Passenger, and School Bus Endorsements. The driver must also have a safe driving record and pass a criminal background check. In addition, the applicant must also attend a school bus driver safety class--taught by the State of Indiana Department of Education. Each year Driver Associates are required to attend regular safety meetings.

If an applicant does not hold the required certifications, NPCSC’s Transportation Department will provide free training.
