We hope you are enjoying the beginning of summer break! We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated an uncertain school year this year. As we look forward to the 2021-2022 school year, I am sure many of you have questions. Will masks be required? Will my child or I need vaccinated to attend school or events? Will students still need to be socially distant? Does quarantining exist next year and if it does, what does it look like? We have those questions too.
For now, we have approved our Back to School Guide with a few adjustments to reflect our practices at the end of the school year. We do not address any changes to the above questions because we do not have updated guidance from the Department of Education or our local health department. I believe we can all agree we are frustrated with some or all of the restrictions that were in place. We have been told not to expect updates from the Department of Education or State and local health departments until late summer. I anticipate this will be right before school starts. Please be assured we will be monitoring updates and will adjust accordingly so that as soon as school can return to what was normal in 2019, we will; and if there is a new normal, we will adjust to that as well.
In anticipation of returning to near normal, we asked the Board to approve a modified school calendar last evening to allow for teacher professional growth and development in order to better serve your child. The calendar has four (4) built in 2 hour delays, noted in purple highlight. These would be excellent opportunities if you need to plan ahead for that morning dental or doctor appointment OR the much coveted sleep-in day for our high school students. On these days, school will start two (2) hours later than normal and buses will run two (2) hours later than normal. Students will not be asked to make up work for these delays.
Our school offices will be closed from the end of June to the middle of July, but our Central Office is open each day. You can contact us at 765-522-6218 and we can reach out to the building level administrator for you. If you need to enroll your child in Kindergarten, you still have time to do that in June before offices close for summer. Otherwise, they will see you in July. We wish you a happy and safe summer!
It has been an honor to serve the North Putnam Community for yet another year; thank you!
